The 2011 production of the King Philip Indoor Percussion Ensemble told the story of a society that must survive through the devastation of a catastrophic event, inspired by films like Book of Eli and Signs and by recent natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina and tsunamis in eastern Asia. A futuristic urban environment with abstract-shaped concrete walls and a paved hardscape is the setting for the characters. Music from the Signs soundtrack by James Newton Howard is utilized throughout, leaving an uneasy tension throughout the show. System of a Down's Toxicity rocks the middle of the show, when characters have reached the highest level of conflict. A feel-good ending provides hope for the characters to repair, revive, regain, redeem, and renew their society.
