The Surry Hills Library and Community Centre opened in Sydney last summer. The architectural design and wayfinding system work very well together. Designed by FJMT, the centre sets new sustainable design standards in Australia for public buildings, integrating environmental elements into the intristic design of the building. Collider was asked to design the signage for the center. The materiality and angled forms complement the building design, while also addressing the library program. Meant to feel like oddly stacked books, the angles on the signage blocks represent how far the destination is from the directory. Brilliant!
